Hi! I'm Dr Lisa Byrom, a Specialist Dermatologist with a special interest in acne, pregnancy related skin conditions, skin cancer management, and auto-immune diseases. Here's a bit more about my background and experience...

Dr Lisa Byrom.  BPhty. MB BS.  MPhil. FACD. 

Dr Lisa Byrom is a Specialist Dermatologist and a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists. She is the current Queensland Director of Training for Australasian College of Dermatologists.

Dr Byrom graduated from medical school at The University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. She obtained her Master of Philosophy Thesis in “The influence of pregnancy, parity, and sex on melanoma prognosis” with The University of Queensland.

She completed Dermatology specialist training across Queensland at tertiary hospitals and private clinics. These include Greenslopes Hospital, QIDerm, Mater Health Services, Sunshine Coast University Hospital, Nambour Hospital, Clinic One, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, and the Queensland Children’s Hospital.

Dr Byrom works in private practice in Brisbane. She has been a Visiting Medical Officer at the Mater Hospital Brisbane, Mackay Base Hospital, and Townsville University Hospital. She is actively involved in teaching Dermatology Registrars and General Practitioners. Dr Byrom is the past Supervisor of Training for Dermatology at the Mater Hospital Brisbane.

She is committed to the not only provision of evidence based medicine, but contributing to this through medical research. She has over 30 publications in peer reviewed medical journals.

 

Dr Byrom is a current reviewer for the Australasian Journal of Dermatology and the Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology. She has presented nationally and internationally, and has been an invited speaker at the World Congress of Dermatology, Australasian College of Dermatologists ASM, Australian Dermatology Nurses' Association ASM and international research institutes. She is a Senior Lecturer for University of Queensland School of Medicine.

Dr Byrom has received the College Citation from the Australasian College of Dermatologists for substantial contribution to the College. She was the recipient of the UQDI Clinician-Researcher Scholarship and the UQ Graduate School Travel Grant. She was awarded the AMA Queensland Presidents Award for contribution to both the AMAQ Council and Council of Doctors of Training.

She has done additional training in laser treatments including vascular and CO2 lasers.

Her areas of interest include: acne, pregnancy related skin conditions, skin cancer management, and auto-immune diseases.

Dr Lisa Byrom has a special interest in adult onset acne and believes in a holistic approach for these patients. She is a Co-Chair and Committee Member of the All About Acne group (www.acne.org.au). She runs a multidisciplinary acne clinic focusing on prescription and non-prescription treatment options, laser treatment, dietary triggers, and the early diagnosis and intervention for hormonal triggers.
